To date, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort has enjoyed a short but remarkable history.
Nov 1999 The Hong Kong Government announces the city will be the site of Disney's first theme park in China, to be created through a joint venture with The Walt Disney Company.
Summer 2000 The land reclamation project begins, laying the groundwork for the future site of the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
Jan 2003 Construction work on the resort begins.
Oct 21, 2004 Hong Kong Disneyland Resort names Angela To as its first ambassador.
Aug 1, 2005 The new MTR to Hong Kong Disneyland Resort opens.
Aug 16, 2005 Inspiration Lake Recreation Centre officially opens to the public.
Sep 12, 2005 The Grand Opening of the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort!
Jul 2006 Three exciting new attractions open at Hong Kong Disneyland – Autopia, Stitch Encounter and UFO Zone in Tomorrowland.
Sep 12, 2006 Hong Kong Disneyland Resort celebrates its first magical year!
Sep 2006 The Hong Kong Disneyland Annual Pass program is launched.
Nov 17, 2006 Hong Kong Disneyland Resort announces its second Ambassador, Jasmine Law
Summer 2007 Two new attractions, Mickey's WaterWorks Parade and Animation Academy, are introduced.
Sep 12, 2007 Hong Kong Disneyland Resort celebrates its second magical year.
Oct 11, 2007 Hong Kong Disneyland Resort offers the first scholarship program to students of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
Sep – Oct 2007 Hong Kong Disneyland stages the never-before-seen Haunted Halloween.
Haunted Halloween is inspired by Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas"
Nov 2007 – Jan 2008 Hong Kong Disneyland presents the all-new Disney's Sparkling Christmas.
Jan 28, 2008 Hong Kong Disneyland Resort launches the Disney Children's Fund to address the needs of children in Hong Kong.
Mar 6, 2008 The exciting High School Musical: LIVE! show is launched.
Apr 2008 Hong Kong Disneyland opens the doors to its latest attraction - it's a small world.
May 24, 2008 "Turtle Talk with Crush" debuts at Hong Kong Disneyland.
"Turtle Talk with Crush" inspired by Disney∙Pixar's "Finding Nemo".
Aug 15, 2008 Hong Kong Disneyland Resort donates "it's a small world" murals to The Duchess of Kent Children's Hospital at Sandy Bay.
Sep 1, 2008 Hong Kong Disneyland presents the "Art of Animation".
Oct 21, 2008 Law Chi Ho selected as the 2009 Hong Kong Disneyland Resort Ambassador and becomes the first male Ambassador to represent Hong Kong Disneyland.
Mar 27, 2009 Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and Disney's Hollywood Hotel were presented with a Gold Award in the Hotels, Restaurants and Catering Companies sector at the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE), in recognition of their considerable achievements in environmental protection.
Jul 10, 2009 The Legislative Council's Finance Committee approved an increase in Government's equity in the Hongkong International Theme Parks Limited (HKITP), through conversion of part of an existing loan from the Capital Investment Fund to HKITP to allow the company to implement arrangements relating to the expansion and operation of Hong Kong Disneyland.
Dec 13, 2009 A groundbreaking ceremony takes place at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort to mark a major milestone in the Resort's expansion plan. John Tsang, Financial Secretary of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, and Jay Rasulo, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts officiate the ceremony with representatives from the Government, The Walt Disney Company and the Hong Kong community in attendance.
The Grand Opening Celebration Album was the soundtrack for the grand opening of Hong Kong Disneyland at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. Much of the album is made up of cover versions of animated Disney films, and the package contained a DVD featuring music videos for some of the songs. The album does not contain any music used in the park.
